Bermuda International Race Weekend

Bermuda is not only home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world covered with astonishing pink sand, it is also an island fond of sports and host of many great events like the Bermuda International Race Weekend 2012.

There are of course many races and events involving the sea that make the most of the amazing turquoise waters that surround the island. The relatively flat topography of Bermuda makes it also a perfect venue for races such as half-marathons, marathons, and others.

The beauty of the island and the ideal weather conditions mean that these events are usually attracting competitors from all over the world. The Bermuda International Race Weekend 2012 is one of them that takes place usually between the months of December and January. The next edition of the event, the 37th, is scheduled to take place between Friday, January 13th and Sunday, January 15th. While the rest of the Northern hemisphere is battling against winter and that runners are struggling to train, the weather conditions of Bermuda and the warm Gulf Stream make the island the perfect place to dust off your trainers.

Last year, more than a thousand runners took part in the event, with the second biggest participation of overseas runners since the 2004 edition when 890 overseas competitors flew to Bermuda. The weather is without a doubt a major factor in this improvement but it is the quality of the organisation and the standing of the venue that is being praised by the participants.

The Bermuda International Race Weekend 2012 will have the same program as the other 36 editions, providing a challenge for almost everyone. There is a choice of 4 races, the 10K or the 10K walk on the Saturday, and the marathon or the half-marathon on the Sunday. For the hard-core competitors, the Bermuda Triangle Challenge is a series that includes a mile race on the Friday, the 10K on the Saturday and a choice between the marathon or the half-marathon on the Sunday.

On the Friday, along the mile race for the Bermuda Triangle Challenge, traditionally takes place the Bermuda Invitational Mile races. In this event, the 20 fastest runners of a series of trial events, locals as well as internationals competitors, compete for prizes in a spectacular race that opens the Bermuda International Race Weekend.

The race headquarters are usually located in the luxury Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel, on the picturesque shores of the Hamilton Harbour. This is more than just a place to stay while waiting for your event and rest after your race. There are about 450 well appointed guest rooms for those who want to make the best of their time in Bermuda, as well as swimming-pools, with fresh or saltwater, and two restaurants where you will appreciate the quality of the Bermudian cuisine.

As a one-off race week-end during the winter season that comes after the festive holidays, the Bermuda International Race Weekend 2012 is the opportunity to spend a great time in a amazing place. It is a welcome change to the sometimes dull and uncomfortable racing events. Many people turn this event into a few days holidays to enjoy as much as possible the beauty of Bermuda and get a well-deserved rest before going back to their wintry countries. Because of the friendly atmosphere that is surrounding the event, the island is an even better place to be at this time.
