Haste and hilarity – it’s pudding without the pedalling
Bermuda is almost as famous for its culture as it is for its beaches. Maybe it’s that unbeatable combination that first attracted Harvard University’s foremost theatre group, Hasty Pudding Theatricals, to the island.
Hasty Pudding has been coming to Bermuda each spring since the early sixties. It’s their only venue outside the US. The performances are a marvel of student ingenuity and professional production values. It’s the one event of the year that you won’t want to miss. And you can be sure of getting into your seat in plenty of time for the first gag of the show if you travel by scooter or electric bike. To laugh all night long
About Hasty Pudding Theatricals
The company takes its name from the tradition of the founding members to bring a hasty pudding to each meeting. It boasts an impressive list of former members, including Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Jack Lemmon. This is the only opportunity to see the legendary company perform outside the US.
There’s a new Hasty Pudding show every year. Its five-week run takes in Harvard, New York City, and Bermuda. The productions deal with contemporary concerns in an exuberant, expressive way, and absurd names are all part of the package. The 2012 production, There Will Be Flood, featured space cowgirl, Lauren Forcement, and half-witted caveman, Homer Erectus.
To catch these crazy characters in action, two wheels are best, as no hire cars are available on the island. Rent gorgeous gas scooters from Elbow Beach Cycles, and the fun begins way before the curtain comes up.
Each of the two Hasty Pudding venues is easily accessible by whisper-quiet electric bike or scooter. You’ll be laughing all the way there and back if you book before anyone else.
