Verdi’s Falstaff at The Metropolitan Opera

This month sees the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Bermuda hold two special screenings on the island. These are the Metropolitan Opera in HD: Verdi’s Falstaff on March 15th and the Metropolitan Opera in HD: Dvorák’s Rusalka on March 29th.

The screenings will go ahead at the Tradewinds Auditorium, at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) in Hamilton & Pembroke. This is part of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s mission to bring opera to the public. The company has set up a series of special broadcasts, where performances of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City are beamed to an auditorium in Bermuda.

This month you can enjoy a screening of The Met’s production of Verdi’s Falstaff. This is an opera in three acts, based on Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor and Henry IV parts 1 and 2. It was the last opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi and was first performed in 1893.

Later this month, the 29th, sees a showing of Dvorák’s Rusalka. This is an opera composed by the Czech Antonín Dvo?ák and was based on a series of fairy tales. Rusalka is among the most popular Czechoslovakian operas and was originally performed in 1901. Its title gets its name from a mythical water sprite said to live in rivers or lakes.

Let two of the world’s most beautiful operas wash over you this March, by watching the Metropolitan Opera in HD at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
