When it comes to romance, Bermuda is the most perfect setting you could ever find.
Think immaculate beaches covered of soft pink sand, glittering and turquoise waters, exceptional food and luxurious resorts and you will have a pretty accurate picture of the island. There are so many places that are perfect for a romantic get together and dinner that each year the battle for the title of the most romantic place is fierce. There has been a different winner for the last four years at the Best of Bermuda Awards presented by The Bermudian and in 2011 it is the Lido that took the crown.
This restaurant is part of the amazing Mandarin Oriental Elbow Beach Hotel, a famous resort located on the South Shore on one of the best beaches in Bermuda. Part of the Elbow Beach is even privately owned by the resort, giving you use of the most amazing place on the island. The Lido is the restaurant located above the beach and offers amazing beachfront views. As much as possible, book a table by the windows or get there early to have a choice of table.
Even before entering the restaurant you have the feeling of going somewhere special. The driveway lined of trees on both sides makes for an impressive arrival. Depending on the weather and the availability, you can sit on the open terrace. At sunset, the view of the ocean from the Lido is one of the most amazing and romantic you will ever be able to see. Make sure you booked early especially on week-ends and during the summer to get the perfect romantic dinner.
But romance requires more than a great view and the newly renovated décor of the Lido is just what you need: a predominance of shades of pale yellow and red, and chairs so comfortable that you will want to linger indefinitely. Until you are ready to dance and step to the adjacent night club with free entry for the restaurant’s customers. Overall the ambiance of the Lido is modern without being to cold and impersonal, and the dress code is smart elegant.
Of course, great food is an element essential in a romantic dinner as well as discreet and efficient service. Both are top notch at the Lido, with a menu mixing seafood specialities and Mediterranean touches in an innovative and refreshing way. We are talking of fine dining like you would expect of any restaurant owned by the Little Venice Group.
In fact, the Lido’s menu is probably one of the most extensive menu in Bermuda and that is saying a lot. If you are looking for authenticity, go for the Bermuda fish chowder as a starter, or you can be more classic with snails, foie gras or salmon. One of the great mains is the Roasted Bermuda Spiny Lobster with Potato Pont Neuf, Mango and Cilantro Salsa, Beurre Noisette, and Lobster Cream. You will find it difficult to choose between that and the Lamb Shank with Parsnips and Carrots, Creamy Polenta, and sautéed Trompette Mushrooms.
If you are still hungry, the Lido serves great desserts such as the Cannoli, some crispy hazelnut cigars filled with chocolate mousse, orange and dark rum compote. The wine list is extensive and you will surely find the perfect wine for a perfect romantic dinner.
